Aunt Helen:
After "old Carl" came on the scene - I can't tell you how drastic the changes were and how strong my feelings against him were. To this day - its distasteful for me to even think about him. Aunt Minnie (my Grandma Lowry's sister) stayed with us while Carl and Ethel (my mother) went on their honeymoon - and nobody had told us what was happening. Al I knew was that when they came home - "old Carl" was established as teh head of teh house - in full charge of disciplining us kids - Mother (your grandma) had completely abdicated. Knowing him, I suppose there was little she could do - but I can tell you that my life was torture from then on. He really took "liberties" with me as a girl .. until I finally reached early teens and he could no longer decently lay a hand on me. But it's no wonder I almost hated him + have bitter memories of him (and his hole damn family except Aunt Em). As for poor Paul .. he had very little discipline and was quite a rebellious youngster, so whe Carl took over, Paul really got clamped down.
Pat Congdon, transcribed by Barb Jenkins, annotated by Karen Olsen?
Carl Krans, died June 19, 1962. (Karen Olsen was on her way back from a year in France.) Pat and George came to funeral. Barb thinks she went with her dad to the funeral, too. Nobody asked them to come to the house afterward. Pat sounds a little put out about it.
Barb Jenkins says he looked Scandinavian.
