I received this from Joyce Hall (George-Frederick-Eugene-Glenn-Joyce). I don't know where she got it from.
Corell-George-Jacob
In the following accounts names, and spellngs of names will tbe shown as they appeared in the various records in which they were found.
The earliest record of any Corell in Tuscarawas County is the 1820 census, which shows Jacob Sr and Jacob Jr. living in Sugarcreek Twp. These are almost certain to be an enirely different family having come here from York County Pa.
On March 24, 1845 in Tuscarawas County George Corell married Catherine Mann on Dec. 20, 1846, same county, Jacob Corell married Margaret Mueller (Miller).
The census records for 1850 shows, living in Dover Twp. George Corell aged 33, a farmer born in Germany, with a wife Catherine age 32, born in Germany and sons George 4; John 3; Henry 2. The same records show living in Bucks Twp, Jacob Corell 31; shoemaker, born in Germany, his wife, Margaret, 21, born in Germany, and daughter Philipppina, 3, later called Phoebe.
An old record book at St. John's Church in Dover, Ohio, says George Korell and Lydia Mann were sponsores or godparents at the baptism of Lydia, daughter of Jacob and Margaret Miller Corell on Jan.8, 1865. George Correll and Faur were likewise sponsores for some later children of Jacob and Catherine Correll.
(Bob here -- Ancestry.com doesn't show any Jacob Correll as a shoemaker in Bucks county by the 1850 census. I've looked through all 33 pages of it, at the shoemakers, and didn't spot him myself either.)
Records tell us Jacob Correll came o America form Maugenheim Rheinbaierm (this is in Rheimpfalz district of Germany)
No documented proof has been found yet but a study of known facts would certainly seem to indicate that George and Jacob were brothers and they came to America in the early 1840s.
The 1860 census in the Dover Twp shows George 43; Catherine 42; George 14; John 12; Henry 10; Fredrick 5; Catherine 8; Mary 6.
