She was fat.

I've been given her name as "Mary Ann Edwards" and also "Nancy Carter". Now, Nancy is sometimes a nickname for Ann, but I have trouble reconciling Carter and Edwards. The 1930 census lists Mary A Jenkins living with Thomas Jenkins, and says the parents of both Mary and Thomas were all from Wales.

The 1901 census lists many Mary Ann Edwardses. I was also hinted by my grandparents that her father's name was Isaac, and her mother's maiden name was Brown. The only match in Tredegar happens to also have a head named Isaac. It says:
