Thelma Mae Corell:
I've been told my Grandmother Wernke might have been quarter Indian. Her last name was Jack before she married Wernke. She came to Ohio in a covered Wagon from Oklahoma.
Sheryl Clounie:
There was a rumor in our family also that Rebecca Jack was part Indian. I have found no evidence to support this. What I have found is that her father, John J. Jack, after his 1st wife died (Rebecca's mother), then married Alice Yargee and they lived in Oklahoma. Alice Yargee was 1/4 Creek. They had two daughters, Alice Luvina "Vina" Jack and Amanda Amy Jack. So, most likely, we have some distant cousins that are part American Indian. I found their application on the web for enrollment with the
Dawes Commission.
